Book Review: To Have and to Heist
I’ve been loving all the genre blends that have been becoming more popular recently in both books and movies (planning on talking about this soon), but a recent one that I absolutely could not get enough of was Sarah Desai’s TO HAVE AND TO HEIST. I personally was super excited about it not just because it sounded amazing but also because I thought it might be a potential comp for my own genre blend ms (and I think it is!).
Things weren’t going great for Simi – she lost another job, nearly killed her landlord’s lover and her basement apartment has flooded. Then, her best friend is accused of stealing a valuable necklace from a museum and Simi is considered an accomplice.
And then she meets Jack.
Jack is mysterious and helps her hide in the bushes when the police arrive at the museum. He offers to help her steal the necklace back and prove her best friend’s innocence. So Simi has to turn an odd group of strangers into a heist team to get the necklace and help plan and execute a wedding all before the handsome detective who is on her tale catches her. Plus, she has to keep her feelings about Jack strictly professional so she doesn’t go to jail or worse.
This book was so fun and funny. I really loved Simi and Jack. They had fantastic chemistry. And I absolutely loved the heist team. There were so many parts that I actually (really truly) laughed out loud. There’s this part on a boat with an inner tube… anyway you’ll just have to read it. It has a bit of Ocean’s 11 feel to it, but with more romance and a lot less experience from the thieves. It was a blast, and I highly recommend it. The way it ended, it definitely teed it up for a sequel so I’ve got my fingers crossed for that!
