Book Review: The Ex Talk

I love a good rivals to lovers. It’s possibly my favorite trope. The sparks! The passion! The hate that eventually leads to love! It’s hard to beat it in my book.

Why do I bring this up? Because Rachel Lynn Solomon’s THE EX TALK is a fantastic rivals to lovers. And it’s a workplace romance (which can be tough to do but this is fabulous!) And there is fake dating! (it’s actually fake break up? I’ll get to that).

Shay Goldstein is a producer for Seattle public radio. Although she dreamed of being on the air, she’s given up those dreams. She loves her job, but is constantly butting heads with new employee Dominic Yun, who thinks he knows everything about radio and and won’t stop talking about his master’s degree.

When Shay comes up with a new idea for a show – The Ex Talk, hosted by two exs – her boss gives it the okay. The problem is he wants Shay and Dominic host since they don’t get along but they never dated. So they pretend to have secretly dated and have broken up. Neither like lying about it, but they need their jobs and for the station to have a hit. And Shay is certain the show will be huge.

As the show grows, the feelings between Shay and Dominic grow (and change) too. And things get a lot harder to manage.

I loved loved this book. It is top tier rom com. So funny, so smart and quick. The CHEMISTRY!! Ughh it is so good. If you haven’t read it, you absolutely MUST add it to your list!
