Book Review: Dial A for Aunties

If you like your romance to come with a side of dead body, have I got the book for you! I had been seeing Dial A For Aunties all over social media, so even though I had far too many books on my to read shelf, I ordered it anyway and couldn’t wait to start reading.

Meddelin Chan works as a photographer in her family’s wedding business. But when she accidentally kills the blind date her mother set her up with, she has to bring in her mother and 3 aunties to help dispose of the body. The only problem is they have an enormous wedding at an island resort the next morning, so they stash the body in a cooler until after the wedding. Unfortunately the cooler and body also make the trip to the resort. Things get worse when Meddy discovers that her college boyfriend and the one that got away Nathan is the owner of the hotel. So all Meddy has to do is get away with murder, win her ex boyfriend back and make sure the wedding goes off without a hitch.

When I tell you it is LAUGH OUT LOUD funny, I mean it. It is so voicey and quirky and strange. I loved it. Jesse Q. Sutanto is an absolute genius (she writes YA and adult, and has so many things coming out. Seriously, she is amazing). And it is going to be a movie! Also the sequel Four Aunties and a Wedding will be out March 29.

If you are a writer, I HIGHLY recommend listening to some of the interviews Jesse has done (The Shit No One Tells You About Writing is a good one as well as the Instagram live with Anne-Sophie Jouhanneau) as well as checking out her Instagram. Her writing process is amazing! She drafts SO fast! I am not embarrassed to admit that I am completely fascinated by her.

Anway, fangirl moment over. Go read Dial A For Aunties if you haven’t already!
