Book Review: The Bodyguard

I am a BIG Catherine Center fan. It started a few years ago when I chose HOW TO WALK AWAY from Book of the Month. And I loved it. Then I got THINGS WE SAVE IN A FIRE. Also fabulous. And then I got WHAT YOU WISH FOR, which is also amazing.

I would say up until THE BODYGUARD, she was a bit of a romance / women’s fiction hybrid author. While the romance is a big part of the story, I don’t know that I would say it is the biggest part. Theyh deal with heavier themes (not that straight romance can’t or shouldn’t – I love when they do) but there is SO much personal growth for the FMC that I would say that is the foremost arc over the romantic arc.

However, I would definitely put her latest book THE BODYGUARD strictly in the romance category. And while I LOVE all of her books, this one is my favorite because it is a little unexpected.

Hannah doesn’t look like the type of person you would picture as a bodyguard, but she is. She’s hired to blend in to the background to protect her clients. After losing her mother and being dumped by her co-worker boyfriend, all she wants is to get away. Unfortunately her boss has other plans.

Hannah’s newest assignment is to protect reclusive movie star Jack Stapleton from his corgi training stalker while he is in town while his mother is sick. The catch is he doesn’t want his family to know about the stalker. So Hannah has to pretend to be his girlfriend so she can be with him all the time and the family not catch on.

FAKE DATING! REGULAR PERSON AND MOVIE STAR! FORCED PROXIMITY!! There are so many amazing things in this book! Did I mention SHE’S THE BODYGUARD??? I absolutely loved that. It was so sweet and funny. I loved Hannah, Jack and Jack’s family.

Highly, highly recommend!
