2021 Books

I used to read around 50 books a year. I know there are plenty of people who can knock out 100 books in a year, but I only read 1 book at a time, don’t listen to audio books and also write. I’m not one of those that sets goals for the number of books I will read, which is actually shocking considering I am incredibly goal oriented and make goals and lists like you wouldn’t believe.

The last 2 years, however, my reading has dropped significantly. Why? I had a baby. I was extremely sick most of my pregnancy (2020) and then baby. So now I juggle a child, a house, husband, dogs, full time job, writing and reading. Something had to give, and unfortunately it was reading.

In 2021, I managed to read 13 books. But I also revised 2 books, beta read for a few writing friends and kept a tiny human alive for a full year, so I’m not beating myself up. Also I read many many children’s books, some of them at least 30 times. (I have read Little Blue Truck’s Christmas exclusively for a solid 3 weeks).

Here are all of the books I loved in 2021. And since there are only 13, I thought I’d list them all.

  1. The Hunting Party – Lucy Foley (thriller)
  2. This Time Next Year – Sophie Cousens (rom com)
  3. The Dating Plan – Sara Desai (romance)
  4. People We Meet on Vacation – Emily Henry (rom com)
  5. Arsenic and Adobo – Mia P Manansala (cozy mystery)
  6. Second First Impressions – Sally Thorne (rom com)
  7. Our Woman in Moscow – Beatriz Williams (historical fiction)
  8. Malibu Rising – Taylor Jenkins Reid (historical fiction)
  9. Very Sincerely Yours – Kerry Winfrey (rom com)
  10. The Ex Hex – Erin Sterling (rom com)
  11. The Love Hypothesis – Ali Hazelwood (romance)
  12. The Ex Talk – Rachel Lynn Solomon (rom com)
  13. Just Haven’t Met You Yet – Sophie Cousens (rom com)

A few of these will be getting their own posts because they are so fantastic, but I really loved all of these books (you are never going to see a book on here I didn’t love unless it is like super problematic or something … even then I don’t know that I would do it).

If you love thrillers, I highly recommend Lucy Foley. The Hunting Party and The Guest List are both really fantastic. Also, anything Taylor Jenkins Reid is phenomenal.

So these are all really great books you should consider adding to your 2022 TBR pile.
